In March 2014, Pieter Levels made a promise on Twitter: 12 startups in 12 months. He posted his revenue, his code, his failures in real time. If a project flopped, his followers watched it flop.
Most of the 12 went nowhere. One stuck: Nomad List, a directory for remote workers. He charged $500 the first month and tweeted the number. By 2019 the portfolio crossed $1 million in annual revenue. Still solo, still no employees.
February 2023, he launched Photo AI, an AI portrait generator. $5,400 the first week, tweeted out. Eighteen months later, Photo AI alone was clearing $132,000 MRR.

Today his full stack (Photo AI, Nomad List, Remote OK, Interior AI) does roughly $3 million a year. One guy. Zero investors. 600,000 Twitter followers watching him work.
The mechanism wasn't talent. Plenty of solo founders are talented and broke. The mechanism was visibility. He told the internet he was building, and the internet held him to it.
That same mechanism is what TikTok is rediscovering at scale.

Charge the community operators, not the consumers. People don't need another place to organize their ambitions. They need a small machine that notices when they flinch.
